Jail Break! (Action/Video)

[So, with Ziva gone, Fluffy and Abby have been in Wash's care. But, that doesn't mean the behave. They break out at least once a day to try to find Ziva. ~~Why no, she totally didn't teach them how to pick locks.~~ This time is slightly different though.

They brought Ziva's comm with them.

It's currently in Fluffy's possession, and he's in flight somewhere in Traverse Town. Every once in a while, Abby can be seen on the ground in the lens of the comm. They're talking back and forth to each other, mostly Where haven't we looked? and Hey! Over there!.

Then, there's the sound of gunfire off in the distance. Their person had a gun! And it sounded kind of like that sometimes. So, immediate direction change and off they go that way. The comm is tossed down to Abby and she catches it as he lands on her head, taking a break from flying for a moment.

The camera shows a glimpse of someone, in armor...some not-so-blue shade of blue, but not enough to show who it may be. Just...it's not who they were looking for.]

[ They had been friends, hadn't they?

...It's been a very long time since she's seen you, North. And as far as Carolina's memory was concerned, North hadn't defected and abandoned the team Way Back Then. At least, not before her own unscheduled bout of absence-without-leave-via-cliff.

Given who else has shown up so far, however, the gun doesn't get raised very high.

You'll have to forgive Carolina if she doesn't wave back right away, given you're supposed to be dead. ]

...North?

[North takes a step back and Theta's ready to throw the shield up just in case.]

Yeah, it's me.

I'm gonna guess you're from the future, but it's good to see you up and about, Carolina.

[ Is her reputation really that bad that old friends think she'd shoot on sight? (..Yes, Carolina. Yes, it probably is.)

The gun is lowered, but she doesn't step forward. She's still confused however. Up and about? Future?

Delta's explanation waves from the back of her mind, and there's a soft huff of breath. ]

Apparently so.

It's... It's good to see you, too.

[ There's a glance about.]

Is South here, too?

[It's more North being careful than anything else. Wash has already pulled a knife on him so he's playing it safe. He relaxes when the gun drops though.]

No, she's not here, yet anyway. It's just me and Theta.

[That's the AI's cue to appear, although he sticks close to North.]

[ Wash drew a gun on her back in the future. ..Admittedly, she deserved that. But that won't be coming up in discussion any time soon.

Her head cants to the right when Theta puts in an appearance. ]

You still have him. [mild surprise. But not, unhappy, exactly.]

Yeah, I do. Why wouldn't I?

[He and Theta were always together. Did something happen in the future that would separate them? Aside from him, well, dying.]

So that's when you are.

[ Given what he's said already, she has a fair idea of what has, or hasn't been happening yet. Carolina takes a moment to consider her next words with care. ]

There will be issues, later, with some of the newer AI. But I guess that doesn't matter so much here, where ever this is.

Yeah I know. The...the last thing I remember before I ended up here was you challenging Texas.

[Which might explain why he's glad to see her up and about.]

I'm sure others have told you, but this place is called Traverse Town. There's also another world called Twilight Town, that we can access.

[ She flinches, very slightly. It's not the last thing she remembers, but it's not something she'll ever forget, either. ]

That happened a long time ago, for me.

[Thinking about Texas... No. She doesn't want to think about Texas, or that fight, or what followed. Carolina appreciates the topic shift, latching swiftly to that instead.]

Well, those are definitely not any cities on the colony worlds I'm familiar with. How did you get here?

[North lets out a small sigh.]

Yeah, I kinda figured that. Most people that show up here tend to be ahead of me on the time line. Except for Wyoming I think.

[But he hasn't seen Wyoming for a while.]

I don't really know. I just remember walking out of the observation area, wanting to get back to my bunk and lie down, turned a corner and wound up here. I ran into Wash shortly after, except he was from the future. Well, my future anyway.

[It's been months. You'd think he'd know how to deal with that by now. But Carolina doesn't need that dumped on her right now.]

[ He can't see the way her jaw stiffens at the mention of Wyoming, though her head does tilt slightly. Just how many of us are there here? ]

[ Poor North. As though he needed more time displaced friends showing up.

For a moment, she looks down. Then, the safety is reactivated on her plasma rifle, and the weapon returned to its magnetic holster, locking it against her thigh. ]

I was infiltrating an abandoned facility. [With Epsilon, except that AI doesn't exist yet. Not that she knows he's here, yet.] It would seem one of the portals there brought me here, instead of to my target.

Any clues as to what's responsible for this happening?

[North nods. He has a lot of questions, but he figures it's probably best if he remains quiet about that right now. Something tells him that prying into the future some more might create more rifts with Wash if he found out.]

Not one. Whoever, or whatever, it is, they aren't talking. The moogles aren't any help either.

Hasn't stopped people from looking but yeah, it's still a mystery.

[ He may well find Carolina willing to answer them, eventually. North isn't the only one with questions.

She tries not to set her jaw at what North has report, and takes a few steps closer. Hopefully doing so won't cause alarm in Theta. ]

And they've given us quite the set up to run around in, too.

[ Her tone sounds a touch dubious.] There's really no clue as to what sort of guinea pigs we're supposed to be?

[Nope. North trusts Carolina, so Theta does to. And since she put the gun away, things are probably safe.]

Yeah, no kidding. Between this town and the next, there's actually quite a lot of space.

But no, there's not. The clues we have got don't really make any sense. Yet anyway.

What sort of clues have you received, then?

If there's at least two towns, I would have though there'd have been more.

There was a key card from another person's world, along with a bunch of photos of the same person, and one that's undeveloped.

Whatever's leading us around is being cagey with the details.

[ She had a mission. Has a Mission. And, apparently, no way to get back to it. But she can't deny she's curious, even as part of her twitches at what she can only perceive as yet another deliberate blockade. ]

And there's no clear link between them? Or just between the photos?

Sounds like a headache.

[One hell of a set up you guys got going here.]

So far just between the photos, since they're all of the same person. Beyond that, I honestly have nothing.

But then I haven't really talked to anyone else about it. I can probably ask Ienzo about it, since he's the one collecting information.

[Still, he nods.]

But yeah, headache's a good word for it.

[ The name 'Ienzo' is tucked away for later. If that person's an information source, North mentioning him was reason enough to--

--There's a vague huff of breath, before the aqua-blue-green helmet shook from side to side. More than word beginning with T was causing her problems. But if North was from that far in the past... ]

It's all a little difficult to take in.

[She glances about.] Do you have one of those coloured creatures too?

[Hopefully she doesn't scare him too much.]

Yeah, I know. In a way you get used to it, but...

[He trails off, unable to think of a decent analogy. Instead he whistles and Winnie and Cactus come out.]

I have two actually. Cactus, the pricklemane, is the one I started with, and then I added Winnie, the Kooma Panda, to the team.

[ They'd likely compare her to Larxene. ...That's probably not going to go well. ]

I guess it depends on how long you've been here.

[There's an unspoken question tilting the end of that sentance. Then her attention switches over to the creatures that come on over.]

Huh. I've met one of those-- [A nod to the bear] --but not a pricklemane.

[There's a distinct lack of partner popping out of anywhere to join Carolina; she doesn't seem to realise that's unusual around here, though.]

A few months is enough to get adjusted to anything I guess.

[Cactus is indeed confused at the lack of spirit. Didn't all persons have one? He looks at North kind of confused. He wanted someone new to pounce on and play tag with.

Winnie, in the meantime is just happy to be acknowledged.]

That's kind of odd, since there are usually a few around. The nightmare versions anyway, but a few people have the spirit kind. Cactus has been pretty loyal since I got here.

[ Yet again, 'months'. She wasn't sure what to make of that. ]

That's a long time to be sleeping.

[ Carolina doesn't seem to notice Cactus' confusion, or perhaps is simply ignoring it. ]

I suppose that was simply a matter of luck over judgement. I'll have to wait and find out for myself.

[She falls quiet a moment, then:] York showed me the Hotel in the Second District earlier. Apparently, that's where most people stay when they get here?

I know. I'm a little worried I'm passed out in a hallway somewhere, to be honest.

[If he was, hopefully someone had the decency to move him. Or draw obscenities all over his face and armor. Either was fair game he figured.]

Yeah, it is. I'm there to.

As long as it's a hallway, and not the hanger bay.

[ If he was lucky, perhaps when he woke up he'd find someone had used permanent marker to give him a moustache as glorious as Wyoming's. IF he was lucky. (479er's crew were somewhat...notorious, after all. Never mind certain pranksters within their own company.) ]

Seems convenient. Is it the only place to live here?
