Technology is Fun - 001 [Audio]

Good day, my name is Jeeves. I am given to understand this device has some extraordinary broadcasting ability akin to a radio or television, but with multi-way communicative properties. I have been here only a short time and require some assistance, for which I will gladly work in trade.

I have created one of the creatures known as a spirit. I have been led to believe that the animal serves some useful function as protection in this realm against nightmares of a similar build, but alternate coloration. The Komory Bat now in my possession defies all training and disciplinary methods with which I am familiar for service animals. I would deeply appreciate some instruction on their care and control. It has taken to fluttering around me in a highly distracting way. Thank you.

I have also been informed this device has some archival function. If it may be accessed readily, I should like to know how.

An ally who fails to act as directed would seem a poor one, if you will forgive me the contradiction, sir.

Would you have any relevant advice on training the animal, though? If it is something vital to safety in this realm, I would prefer it function in a manner that will aid rather than hinder me. As mentioned, I am prepared to offer my services in trade. I am a valet and am capable of managing any number of household tasks. I also have some minor skill with automobiles.

As for the Spirits, they appear to be naturally inclined to fight the local monsters, if nothing else, and have been proven to fight relatively adequately besides.

But will simply approaching an enemy activate the creature's battle instincts? Am I meant to aid directly in the battle myself of merely instruct my spirit?

It's nothing. Simply the least I can offer.

However, that seems to be the case, and they can be left to it, if you should prefer to not fight yourself.

Fascinating. [He does mean it.] Will spirits engage in battle when their creators are not present?

I'm afraid it's never been adequately tested.

I see, sir. Are there individuals currently engaged in any form of testing as regard the limits and capabilities of spirits? Beyond those involved in battle who are, as they say, 'learning on the fly?'

Not to my knowledge, no.

Are there any persons engaged in scientific inquiry on any matter as regards this realm, then?

[Surely there must be. They have a detective, a pony princess, and soldiers who wear purple armor. At least one scientist must be mixed in.]

If you wish purely scientific inquiry, you may find it best to speak to Even. However, there are more than a few people working on figuring out the nature of this world and the reasons behind our prolonged stays here.

I see, sir. [He stores the name 'Even' away.] Has there been any formal documentation of the knowledge gained thus far that I might review?

That largely depends on where your primary interest lies.

I suspect my typical interests will have little practical relevance here, sir. I wish to return home, though, if that is more your meaning.

Not precisely. However, to the best of my recollection any discussion on how to return has never been in single place.

A more extensive review of the archives will be necessary, then.

I believe the most important thing of note is that there is an unknown entity who appears on this network periodically, predominantly to mock us. You will no doubt come across them in your review. Beyond that, while people have woken up, there is no indication of how one might do so.

The persons Ms. Chell referred to, I take it? Most disturbing, sir. I shall be diligent in my review.

May I ask, though, has there been any form of pattern to those waking up? Do these persons simply vanish? Or are their bodies left behind in sleep as our own waking bodies likely find themselves outside this realm.

Presumably, yes.

[Then again, there aren't really a whole lot people who match that description and the times when they've shown up are usually fairly memorable.]

They vanish. It's as if they'd never been here at all.

[So they arrive seemingly at random and depart much the same way. No wonder Detective Shirogane had had trouble with this 'case,' as she called it.]

I have, I believe, a great deal to simply review before I feel I can be of some greater use in the current endeavor to return to our native realms.
