8. [Video/action]

[Of all the Freelancers here, North is probably the happiest to see the Mother of Invention. For all intents and purposes, it's home for him, and after a few months of technicolour monsters and other weird goings-on, it's nice to see something familiar, dream world or not. He spends some time on the bridge, before heading out into the ship, seeing all the familiar places. Mess hall's still intact, and it looks like the common room is as well, with it's lousy selection of books. The training floor hasn't changed, and it's nice to see that his name is still where it should be on the Leaderboard. As troublesome as it is, he is number five and takes a decent amount of pride in that. They don't spend a lot of time there, taking out the nightmares quickly before moving on. It still brings back a few unpleasant memories.

Theta's been pretty quiet throughout the whole journey, but he skates alongside North's head, equally glad for the familiarity. The last time either of them saw this place had been in a dream, so the, somewhat real thing is good to have, and North lets his hand trace the wall. He rounds a familiar corner, and heads to a familiar room.

His barrack is pretty much how he left it. Bed, table, locker, all the comforts of home. He sits down on the bed. Home sweet home. After a few moments, he turns on the communicator.]

I was just thinking that anyone exploring this place might want to avoid the barracks, or at least rooms 1115 and 1116. 1115's mine, and 1116 is my sister's. If she shows up here, I don't think she'd approve of anyone going through her stuff, dream world or not.

I guess I can actually give you a tour of my world now, if you want it? Unfortunately there's not a lot of places for ice cream.

[North lets out a laugh. Considering his struggles with York and Wash, it's kind of weird to be having this kind of banter with Carolina.]

I'll remember. It'll be more useful to trade munny and dream pieces anyway.

But they are different. It's kind of nice, being in a town again.

[He glances at Theta, who shrugs. He's not as bad as he was after all, but Carolina doesn't need to know that.]

Not really, just the usual. Granted this place is familiar, so it's helping.

[Carolian and Tex are tied, at least until they learn that Tex isn't as mean as she seems, where Carolina seems to get meaner. South's the scariest though.]

[North can't see her manage the most lukewarm of smiles, but it's still there beneath her helmet. It's been too long since she managed a successful quip that hadn't completely fallen flat -- or had anyone to trade them with, for that matter..]

[She can see the use for munny, certainly, but she hasn't been particularly diligent about collecting up dream pieces thus far.] What sort of trades have you been been making for those?

I suppose so. We didn't really get to visit too many normal places for shore leave, either, did we?

[ There's a nod of understanding about familiarity. [ I'm glad it's been helpful for someone, at least.

Usually other dream pieces, or treats for spirits. It's sort of a gamble for what the nightmares will drop when you beat them.

[He's been debating making a third, to round out the team a bit.]

Not really. Personally, I'm not minding the vacation, even if I'm running out of things to do.

[He nods, knowing it's a bit of a struggle for everyone else.]

It's nice to see home again, even if it is a dream.

Guess I'll need to keep an eye out and learn the difference.

[ Carolina only has the one dream eater so far. However, unlike the pair that aided her after her arrival, this one hasn't exactly gone out of his way to be useful.. No doubt one of the guys can "offer" her advice later on what to make next, though whether she takes it will be another matter. ]

I take it there's not much work outside of finding these new worlds, or fighting nightmares? [Heh.] There was always something to keep us hopping back then.

[Training, travel, missions..

Her Mission is one she needs to get back to, which leaves her undeniably frustrated, even if this dream holds things dear to her she wasn't expecting.

(Expect Carolina to find some way to train, regardless of setting.) ]

It's pretty easy to learn. I've pretty much figured out the system, so I can help you out if you need a hand with anything.

[He's got two that thankfully are pretty obedient. Most of the time.]

Not a whole lot, yeah. It does sort of make me miss going on missions. Or having some sort of schedule.

I need to finish reading the documentation on these 'spirits' first, but I'll hold you to that. Apparently we haven't seen all of the ones listed yet?

[She hasn't reached the "Tyranto Rex" entry, on that note. Or the "Skelterwild". Yet.]

Given what I've been told, being prepared for nonsense is about all you can be here. Perhaps that's why the Mother showed up. A reminder on how to stay motivated. [a little flat at the end there; someone doesn't buy her own suggestion.]

Yeah, there's usually only about four or five new ones per world, so it's always a surprise.

[The Giraffes are new, as are the snails. He's debating getting a giraffe though. Be kinda fun to have one of those.]

Maybe. Although it seems to have had other effects as well.

[Yeah, he's worried about North and Wash.]

And some are certainly...cuter than others. Though I guess fighting them is the best way to see which one you want for your own side?

[ There's a sharp sideways glance when something burrrrrps rather rudely off camera, before she sighs. How did she end up with the laziest partner? ]

..Are these effects something I should keep an eye out for?

[ Not that they haven't all had plenty to worry about.. It's a pity North can't enjoy being home with all of them, thanks to the memories that lie between. History is cruel sometimes. ]

[Cuter is not a word North typically associates with Carolina.]

They really can be, and I agree that's a good measuring stick. That's how I ended up with Winnie after all. He's my Kooma Panda.

[He tilts the communicator to his spirits. Winnie waves and Cactus the Pricklemane just tries to look cool.]

The other one's Cactus, by the way. What'd you end up with?

[He goes a little quiet at her next question.]

Maybe. I don't know about York, but Wash might be a little...I don't really know how to describe it. He's been through a lot it seems and this place showing up hasn't really helped.

[ 'Cuter' isn't a word Carolina usually associates with Carolina (hence the awkward pause before over-enunciation), but it was the closest she could manage. 'Adorable' might have been scarier in the long run.

The wave earns the faints chuckle, though Carolina doesn't return the gesture. ]

Well, I've seen a few around that could be useful.

As for mine? I picked up one of the lizards by accident. His name is Dax.

[ The aforementioned Hebby Repp promptly peers over her shoulder, BURPS once, then disappears to resume his nap. Charming. Carolina simply shakes her head in resignation.

Then silence. Her helmet was good at concealing emotion, but when you lived and breathed the armor as they had done for so long, there were always tells. This didn't mesh up with the Wash she'd seen lately.. But then, Wash here hadn't known she was alive before Epsilon had mentioned it.. ]

We'll have to keep an eye on both of them. And Church, as well.

[And how about herself? ...Well, that'd depend.]

I don't really know that you pick them up by accident, to be honest.

[North sighs at the Hebby Repp's behaviour. They've all got personality, if nothing else.

He nods. It didn't mesh with the Wash he had seen before coming here either. Granted, most people coming from the future didn't and he's still trying to figure it all out.]

I've...I've been doing my best with that.

[He can't say he's succeeded. He's unsure if he wants to say anything though. He scared of ruining what little reconnection he has here with Carolina.]

In my case? By not getting the starter kit, and randomly assembling bits in the street.

[ The things you miss on account of shooting the messenger. Literally! Though Wash figured out her, ahem, 'mishap' for himself, she is both surprised (and perhaps quietly gratified) that York hasn't told too many people about the hotel moogle's reaction ~~yet~~. It's a touch embarassing in retrospect, but she's still too proud to show it.

There's one last irritated glance for the Hebby Repp over her shoulder, before attention fixes back on North. Thumb runs along the side of the communicator, before she nods slightly. ]

I don't doubt that. [If anyone could be relied on for that, it was North.] I also don't doubt that neither of those two have made things easy.

I'm surprised you missed the intro. Moogles are usually all over you.

[At least, his was really enthusiastic about it. Although North hadn't been in a mind to listen very closely.

He does kind of look away when at Carolina's next comment. It's been a struggle to say the least.]

No, they haven't. Same old same old in a way.

[Except for the whole being from a lousy future thing where everything goes horrible wrong and all your friends die and you can't do anything about it.]

So people keep telling me.

[Slightly deadpan, yet there's an awkward note to her voice when she says that. Carolina shifts a little on camera.]

[Give he looks away at that moment, he might miss the brief discomfort.

He can't see her gaze sharpen at his words, but she doesn't call him on it. She's in no position to comment due to occupying a spot at the tail most end of that pretty shitty future, but that doesn't mean she likes it.

She just doesn't know how to approach someone about these things anymore. It's been...far, far too long since Carolina stopped long enough to care.

...Well, this is awkward.]

[ Cue topic change! ]

Have you had a chance to check any of the weapons lockers yet?

Not yet, but I'm going to head there with Xion soon. I need to do that anyway.

[After all, only having a sniper rifle hasn't exactly been helpful.]

Who?

[ Someone hasn't been out rubbing shoulders with the other people stuck here. Imagine that.]

Heh. If you spot a gravity hammer, make sure to call dibs for me. [Not that there are any, on this version of Mother, but they don't know that yet.] If the inventory is anything like before, there should be more than a few spare magnums somewhere.

Xion. She's a friend I made here. Twilight Town was something of her home world, so she showed me around when it appeared. I promised I'd do the same for her.

I didn't expect that to actually happen.

[He nods]

Will do. They've got this place almost down to the last detail, so I'll be surprised if there aren't.

I see.

Does seem like the worlds that have appeared so far have at least one person from that location stuck here.

[She'd noticed that likeness. It was a very accurate dream - if lacking a few key details. Like FILSS. Or living bodies running the place...]

Given the prices York told me the moogles have been charging, it might be worth gathering what's over there and rationing it out for use.

Or at least some connection to it. I guess we'll know for sure if a magical pony-land shows up.

[He nods. It's kind of creepy in a way, he won't deny that.]

That was my plan.

I hope not.

[Her tone of voice is dry, but he can't see the pained look that crosses her face. Thank goodness for helmets.]

Just take care when you do. Those new nightmares over there seem more troublesome than the ones in Traverse Town.

[ Someone didn't tattle about someone else faceplanting due to kooma pandas, but it seemed a thing to mention. And Carolina hasn't been caught up yet on the mystery being haunting their old home. Yet. ]

[He's not discounting it anymore.]
