Technology is Fun - 001 [Audio]
Good day, my name is Jeeves. I am given to understand this device has some extraordinary broadcasting ability akin to a radio or television, but with multi-way communicative properties. I have been here only a short time and require some assistance, for which I will gladly work in trade.
I have created one of the creatures known as a spirit. I have been led to believe that the animal serves some useful function as protection in this realm against nightmares of a similar build, but alternate coloration. The Komory Bat now in my possession defies all training and disciplinary methods with which I am familiar for service animals. I would deeply appreciate some instruction on their care and control. It has taken to fluttering around me in a highly distracting way. Thank you.
I have also been informed this device has some archival function. If it may be accessed readily, I should like to know how.

Yes, madam. A Ms. Chell informed me of the balloon toys available for training purposes. I intend to acquire one, in future.
As for combat, I served in His Majesty, King George V's Army as part of the Motor Machine Gun and Tank Corps in France and Belgium from 1915 to the end of the Great War. I should very much hope trench warfare is not something I have to look forward to again here.
[visual]
[ Ah, but where are her manners? ] I'm Lin Beifong. Formerly chief of police for Republic City.
No trenches here, no. But your experience should stand you in good stead - you will find you have a somewhat easier time of handling the nightmares here, in the very least. Those would be the darker, wild versions of the native spirits. Easily distinguished from the regular sort by their red eyes. [and bad habits of attacking people. go figure.]
[visual]
It is my honor to make your acquaintance, Chief Beifong. Princess Luna had made mention of choosing any color changes for my own spirit wisely to avoid the confusion with a Nightmare. I suppose for my training to have any relevance here, though, I will need to acquire a weapon. I take it I might ask the Moogles for such equipment?
[It's mildly unsettling for little white bears with pompoms on their heads to have such economic power.]
[visual]
The moogles have some items, but it is difficult to say what you may find available. One of the worlds connected to Traverse Town is a spaceship, and may have something you can use, though it's unlikely to be a weapon familiar to you from your time.
[ You have no idea, old sport. ]
[visual]
[The Komory Bat squeaks happily, apparently in favor of this change in their circumstances.]
I am uncertain what a 'space ship' is apart from a ship of particularly ample proportions, though, if you will forgive me the ignorance.
[visual]
[ There's a faint 'hmf'. ]
I thought much like you, until I was aboard. It is a ship that literally sails the stars. At least, from what I've understood of the explanations given by the agents who say it's from their world. Their world has technology well beyond even these communicators, far more advanced than mine.
[visual]
At the mention of what the spaceship is, the valet's eyes widen slightly.]
Doubtlessly a most wondrous craft, madam. I can hardly imagine... to be amongst those things that 'govern our conditions' must be a truly extraordinary experience. Are the Nightmares there the similar in type and power to those found in Traverse Town?
[visual]
Lin smiled very slightly at his surprise, before nodding. ]
There are stronger nightmares there, but as with all worlds, there always seems to be at least one location they do not stray. The bridge is the first place you arrive, and safe enough to take in the view.
[visual]
Is arrival in all worlds to a safe place, madam? The bridge of this vessel, the room whence I woke?
[visual]
[ There's a slight grimace. ]
Nightmares can appear in the First District, but in the smallest numbers. The moogles will usually chase off any that harass a new arrival. The areas closest to portals in the other worlds tend to be most lacking in danger. At least, that appears to be the most consistant pattern so far.
[visual]
I shall bear that in mind for any exploration. I understand Ponyville is the preferred destination at the moment given the search for the Elements of Harmony. Are the enemies in that world of a similarly advanced level compared to those in Traverse Town?
I will train with my spirit, of course, but I do not wish to exhaust it prematurely in a battle it is not prepared for.
[visual]
[ Nightmares and Dream Eaters both. ]
One member of our group, Sora, posted a document with details on what sort of dream eaters may appear - not all have been encountered yet, but it helps to be forewarned.
[visual]
May I inquire further as what you mean by 'quirks,' though? Are the battle tactics used outside the ordinary? [He pauses.] I beg your pardon, please allow me to rephrase. I suspect that word has an extraordinary number of meanings in this place. Are you referring to the different attacking methods of the spirit dream eaters or the dreamers and their own combat capabilities in and of themselves?
[visual]
[ She definitely appreciates Jeeves' train of practical thought, even if he is rather more verbose than most of the resident dreamers. ]
No pardon necessary. I was primarily referring to your companion's abilities. According to the document provided by Sora, their personality can affect their method of attack, though I've yet to see much variation in mine as yet.
[ Mostly because she isn't very touchy-feely, but that's okay, she and her spirits get along just fine. ]
However, once you both get used to working with one another, you'll find your spirit is capable of adapting to assist you more effectively.
[visual]
I look forward to that day with the greatest anticipation, madam. Thank you for your advice. It is something of a relief to know that there is the possibility for the animal to experience a change in temperaments. [He glances down at the Komory Bat as he says this.]
I do not wish to spend any more of your valuable time, though. I hope I will meet you elsewhere about the realms, Chief Beifong.
[visual]
I've no doubt we'll meet in person soon enough. While the worlds are spacious in their own way, there's only so many places any of us can go. I can be reached on the communicator regardless.
[visual]
[He returns the gesture of respect before ending the communication. And now to attend to his irritating bat.]
