Technology is Fun - 001 [Audio]

Good day, my name is Jeeves. I am given to understand this device has some extraordinary broadcasting ability akin to a radio or television, but with multi-way communicative properties. I have been here only a short time and require some assistance, for which I will gladly work in trade.

I have created one of the creatures known as a spirit. I have been led to believe that the animal serves some useful function as protection in this realm against nightmares of a similar build, but alternate coloration. The Komory Bat now in my possession defies all training and disciplinary methods with which I am familiar for service animals. I would deeply appreciate some instruction on their care and control. It has taken to fluttering around me in a highly distracting way. Thank you.

I have also been informed this device has some archival function. If it may be accessed readily, I should like to know how.

It's no trouble. To begin with...

[And on she goes for a minute or so. The barrage of technical detail, peppered with descriptions of exactly what to press and where, might slightly obscure the fact that the process really does only involve a couple of different buttons. If radio is the level of prior knowledge she has to work with, she probably can't be too careful, can she? And laying everything out like this is the least confusing way to go about it, obviously.

It'd also be a bit easier to follow if the Komory Bat in the background didn't keep attempting to interject. She carries right on as if successfully ignoring it, though.]

- from there, you're able to navigate to another broadcast and browse through the responses there in the same way, if desired.

[Finally. She exhales slowly, and a little louder than she'd intended.]

I think that covers every function of the archive currently known. The unknowns are, of course, another story.

[She laughs. It's a small, dignified sound... more or less, if undercut by the incessant squeaking still going on somewhere beside her.] Alas. I'll admit it's an interest of mine, but more than that - whoever designed these devices, I suspect accessibility was one of the goals they had in mind.

[Here she pauses as if to give the communicator a polite nod, because in fact she just did.]

At any rate, I'd like to say that the span of a week would be significant to any case... But with one of this complexity, it's difficult to say.
fatemeter: (just say the word)

... In some senses, and not in others. Arguably a more dangerous perspective than a blank slate. [Her voice remains impressively level, but there's a buried note of annoyance in it, and it isn't entirely the fault of the bat now quietly butting its head against the speaker and muffling the sound.] I trust you'll understand, Mr. Jeeves, when I say I'd rather not have it influence other parties' work on the case for now.
fatemeter: (finish this one off)

[Ah... was she a little cold there?]

Not at all. I'll be the first to admit that my progress has left something to be desired. It's a rare case when few of the parties involved can agree even on the nature of the crime -

[SQUEAK.]

- um. [Good god, that is her hat, what's suddenly so fascinating about - no, sorry, hold on, she'll need another second.]
fatemeter: (quite tenacious)

Er, n-no. [Her voice is a little indistinct.] My apologies. It seems that, in contrast to the apparent user-friendliness of the network -

[And off goes the communicator.

... Damn.]
