Technology is Fun - 001 [Audio]

Good day, my name is Jeeves. I am given to understand this device has some extraordinary broadcasting ability akin to a radio or television, but with multi-way communicative properties. I have been here only a short time and require some assistance, for which I will gladly work in trade.

I have created one of the creatures known as a spirit. I have been led to believe that the animal serves some useful function as protection in this realm against nightmares of a similar build, but alternate coloration. The Komory Bat now in my possession defies all training and disciplinary methods with which I am familiar for service animals. I would deeply appreciate some instruction on their care and control. It has taken to fluttering around me in a highly distracting way. Thank you.

I have also been informed this device has some archival function. If it may be accessed readily, I should like to know how.

I have taken up residence in a room at the local inn, sir. I was informed this is a safe haven and directed here with funds from the Moogle I... encountered upon waking. [The encounter had nearly resulted in him striking the beast, but its use of language had spared it while Jeeves had oriented himself to the strange surroundings.]

Your assistance in movement throughout the city would be deeply appreciated, though, I must confess, I am at a loss as to where an appropriate destination might be. Is there a library I might access to learn more about this realm and the nightmares?

Good to hear. I'm at the inn as well, and yeah, nightmares won't come in here.

There isn't really a library, and most of what we know comes from our own experiences and a few people who are a bit more familiar with the worlds.

I can definitely help with moving around though. There's a coffee shop and a restaurant, as well as a few other things in some of the other towns. Most of it is run by the moogles.

Yes, I am learning they are something of the regional authority, sir. Does this hold true for all towns in this realm or simply this one?

[He has no desire to subvert the Moogles at present, but if there comes a time or need, it's best to know the safe havens. The lack of a library is a particularly stinging blow, but other venues may prove relevant for information gathering. Cafes are often excellent places to overhear conversations, after all.]

They're mostly based in Traverse Town and Twilight town, but you can usually find at least one on the Mother of Invention and in Ponyville.

I don't know how much of an authority they are overall, but when it comes to goods, they're the ones we have to go to.

I beg your pardon, sir, but do you mean to imply there are only four towns in this realm, or that these are the only ones of note? [And what on Earth would possess a group of persons to name their town 'Mother of Invention'?]

I wouldn't really call them towns as much as individual worlds, but most of them are towns as well. They're the only ones we've visited so far but we suspect there's more.

Whole worlds made up of only one town, sir? This seems most peculiar. How would one go about reaching these other places?

It is pretty weird, but that's sort of how things work here.

There's portals in the second district of Traverse Town, and they can take you to the other worlds. Be careful with Ponyville though. This sounds crazy but it does turn you into a pony.

[Jeeves stares down at the communicator for a moment. He's seen Princess Luna, so he knows there are sapient equines, but to actually become one?]

Might I inquire why anyone would travel to that particular town, then, sir? It sounds a most discommodious and disturbing change to be wrought upon an individual accustomed to the use of hands and bipedal movement.

Each new world seems to open up more clues about what exactly is going on here. Ponyville's the newest town, so it stands to reason that we're going to find the next clue there.

[He pauses for a moment before he poses his next question. It's painful to even think that he's considering this.]

Is the transformation into a pony painful?

Not at all, although you have to watch that first step because it takes some getting used to, walking on four legs.

But it just sort of happens and you don't notice the change.

[Jeeves finds it hard to believe he wouldn't notice something like that, but he's going to give North the benefit of the doubt.]

Indeed, sir? I shall bear that in mind. You have my thanks for your assistance, Agent North.

[Luna gave him that name... though he probably should have waited for the other man to properly introduce himself.]

[Thankfully, North has Theta following the other conversations just in case so he caught that. Jeeves will probably encounter the AI someday.]

[Nope, didn't catch it. Sometimes having to deal with an AI in your head means you miss details. Not the best strategy, all things considered.]
