--this? I just--
Oh, um--I think it's working.
[Korra really has no idea what she's supposed to be doing with this thing. Sure, Republic City was a pretty up-to-date place but this was a new little device. Really new.
Have an awkward smile though and a slight wave as she tries to keep herself composed.]
My name's Korra and I'm not..really sure where I am or how I got here. I'm looking for my friends though--Bolin, Mako, and Asami. I...if you guys are here too, let me know? Or come find me.
[The weak attempt at a smile doesn't work anymore and she looks around, peering at something out of sight of the camera, an odd look on her face after a second. She then turns some and a Hebby Repp can be seen.]
And could anyone tell me what this weird...thing is that's following me? I don't think it's a spirit but I'm not really sure at this point.

Chief Beifong?

Yes, believe it or not. [There's a faint snort.] This is a side effect of one of the worlds here.
Stay where you are. I'll be there shortly.
[because giving orders to the Avatar has always worked in the past right]
no subject
[It's so hard to take you seriously like that, Lin.]
Considering I really don't have any idea where to go or what to do, I'll be here.

[ Fortunately, it isn't that long a wait - the four legged form moves quickly, and she's gotten used to navigating the weird portals that link up the worlds here. So it is a much more familiar human form that strides through the double doors leading from the Second District into the first; hopping behind her is a purple spikey cat-creature, while overhead flits a navy-blue owl. Though green eyes are sharp, she doesn't spot the Avatar right away. ]
Korra?

Such a weird thing..but it was kind of cute.
Hearing her name makes her perk up and she slides off her perch with her hebby repp in tow, peeking around a corner before stepping completely.]
Chief Beifong!
no subject
[ Although there was still time to change that assessment. ]
You're looking well. Better than I last saw you.
[ ..Now there's a thought. She'll have to come back to it later, but not too much later. Instead, she looks to the spirit behind the Avatar instead. ]
I see you have one of the lizards.
no subject
[Yeah Korra doesn't really know about the whole potentially different points in the timeline bit yet.
Have fun with that, Lin.
Glancing back at her lizard, Korra smiles a bit lopsidedly, shrugging as she returns her attention to the police chief.]
Talk about weird place. It almost reminds me of the spirits back home though.

[ There's a blankness that crosses Lin's expression, a lack of comprehension that's easy to see and impossible to misinterpret, before grey head shakes and she lifts a hand to stall further conversation.
At least, until they're on the same page.
Her pricklemane settles at her heels, looking between Lin and Korra anxiously, while the owl settles over head, hooting faint disapproval. Of what? ..Well, hard to say. ]
I think you better tell me what your last memory is from before you got here.

We had finally defeated my uncle and Vaatu and freed the spirits from the corruption that had been created. I decided to leave the spirit portals open instead of closing them, so that spirits and humans could learn to live in harmony again.

[ More things that hadn't happened yet. Great. Just great. ]
Those who say this place is native to their universe call it the 'Realm of Sleep'. It seems to pull in people from different places. Different realities and worlds. Different times.
[Green eyes narrow slightly.] I got here a few months ago. And I think it's safe to say you and I aren't from the same time.
no subject
[Korra can't help but frown a bit, looking around some before her gaze snaps back to Lin when the other speaks again.
Wait...what?]
What do you mean not from the same time?
no subject
The spirits here aren't much like the spirits of our world - for one thing, they're intelligent, but only to a point. And some more than others.
[there's a hoot of affirmation from the owl perched above; Lin's pricklemane merely does his best to look Responsible and Brave like his Person, but he doesn't really understand.]
[ There's a pause at Korra's question. ]
When Bolin and Asami were both here, they were further ahead of me in terms of events that were occurring in Republic City. Their past was, or is, my present when not here in this dream realm.
When did you last see me?
no subject
So there's no explanation for it..and no real connection to home?
[Her gaze lifts to Lin again and there's a worried sort of fear in her eyes though she's trying her best not to let it be too obvious.]
What about the bad spirits though? Are they comparable to the ones back home?
[Her hebby repp hides behind her legs a bit, peering up at Korra then Lin, tail flicking slightly.
The idea of them being from different times has confusion winning out over her fear again and she scrunches her nose a bit in thought, glancing up now.]
After I defeated Unalaq and Vaatu. Once everything had calmed down and the spirits were all alright again.

[ More than one party seemed aware of their situation.. And Lin greatly dislikes being out of the loop. It isn't her intent to frighten the young Avatar, though, and there's the faintest flicker of surprise in green eyes before a hand lifts to rest on the girl's shoulder reassuringly. ]
Those traped here with us seem the decent sort, though most have nothing like bending in their world. So far, most have proven trustworthy allies here. As for the spirits..
[ There's a pause. A rather long one as the Metalbender tries to settle on what to say.
She knew of Unalaq, obviously, knowing who the leader the Northern Water Tribe was part and parcel of her (former) role. Always in her interests to keep an eye on the politics of other nations, especially given how they could affect Republic City..
But what Korra described sounded like something out of legend. Which wasn't all that far from truth, really. ]
I haven't lived through any of that yet.
no subject
Though...the bit about spirits has her frowning some, fidgeting a bit.]
Guess there's no way to know until I run into some, right?
[She manages a lopsided smile, shifting her weight back and forth from one foot to the other.]
As long as they can be stopped, that's what matters. It..ended up getting pretty bad back home and I really don't want to repeat that.
no subject
The girl has grown, but.. ]
Well, you've run into the regular dream eaters. [There's almost a fond glance for Lin's pricklemane, who makes friendly noises at Korra now that his Person has vetted her.] The nightmares vary in size, but after dealing with the Equalists, I doubt you'll have problems. They aren't particularly smart, tend to prefer to attack in numbers. It's the largest ones that seem intelligent that you need to be wary of.
None of my bending abilities have been affected by being here so I have no doubt you'll have no trouble. Save in Equestria, but that's due to the change of shape.
[ Concern furrows her brows slightly. ]
Worse than Amon? [She's finding that hard to fathom, even if her doubts are few.]
no subject
[She hadn't even thought to try that yet and the fact that she could still use her powers? Yeah that made her feel ten times better.
She grinned, relaxing even more as she glanced at Lin's pricklemane, resisting the urge to touch the thing as she waved a bit instead.
And then good feelings gone as she looked back at Lin, grin fading.]
Yeah..a lot worse.
no subject
[ She turned into a unicorn but Bolin had been an Earth pony. What logic was involved with the breed selection there hadn't been revealed to Lin. ]
[ And then the cheerfulness fades from Korra's face, and Lin feels her own smile slip, though she keeps uncertainty from becoming visible. Instead, she regards Korra with a long, measured look. To be worse than the loss of your bending.. That had to be serious indeed. ]
..Come with me. We'll get you settled at the hotel. You can tell me the details later.
no subject
Whatever she ended up being able to do in Ponyville would be better than nothing.]
Okay.
[The response is quick and to the point, Korra really not sure how she's going to go about explaining all of this without...
Well, without feeling horrible.]
