Second Report - Necessity Is The...

[ The communicator clicks on, revealing the sunlit decore of Twilight Town. Sunset Hill, specifically, for those familiar with the location.

What should also be familiar is the statue in view of the camera. Not so familiar? The portal set at the base, the glow pulsing brightly. Invitingly, even. A pricklemane bounces towards it, then stops, tilting its head from left to right and waggling its ears in a show of interest. ]

This wasn't here when I passed by this morning. But it looks like the wait for something new to happen is over.

[ After 10 seconds or so of focus, the camera swings around until the firm frown of Lin Beifong is visible. ]

We don't know what might be through here, and securing a safe point on the other side is a priority. I plan on crossing over shortly. Anyone in Twilight Town is welcome to join me, but I recommend being ready for combat.

[ooc: this post is action/prose friendly! feel free to reply to Lin, or go ahead and do your own thing in a seperate thread. :D ]

[Tony waits the moment for the kid to catch up, then starts walking again. He leaves the helmet open for a moment longer, even though he'd be more comfortable viewing the information Jarvis is collecting.]

Nope. I'm Tony.

[He gives ~~the kid~~ Sora a once over, smirks ever so slightly, and closes the helmet. It'll erase most of the emotion when his voice filters through the modulator, but that's not his concern right now. There's no telling what's on this boat, and he'll feel better not taking it in the face.

He stops a few minutes later at another computer console and attempts everything he can think of short of just punching it to get a reaction. Nothing. Damn. Finally some decent tech and totally cockblocked. Also, Jarvis is taking area scans as they go and piecing together a map, so hopefully that can prevent some of the getting lost... unless this place is like Hogwarts, in which case, they're screwed.

Dingbat chitters happily in greeting at whoever Sora brought along. SO MANY NEW FRIENDS.]

[Tony seems nice enough, Sora thinks. Then again, he does know first impressions aren't everything. His opinion might very well change over time, though he doesn't really feel that they would end up being enemies.

The computers not working is just like the situation at the mansion. The computer in the basement there hadn't worked either. A ship like this would need something functioning and it makes sense that vital things like life support are working. Sora's not sure he wants to know what's up with the leader boards, though.]

Why would they be keeping a score?

[He's sort of thinking out loud on that question. And that feeling of being watched isn't going away, though his Spirits don't seem bothered. He's got Bruce (a bat) and Jelly Bean (a Meow Wow) with him and they are more interested in chatting with Dingbat. They're on the lookout for Nightmares, though. While the being watched thing isn't bothering them, the possibility of Nightmares attacking is always there.]

[Tony had spared the score-boards just enough attention to asses he recognized some of the names and that they must be a hierarchy of some sort. Since they offered little better than that, he'd dismissed them, but he responds to Sora all the same, deciding to give up on the computer console for now.]

I'm guessing it has something to do with rank. How is a more interesting question than why, if you think about it. And a few of the names look familiar.

[Dingbat may seem like a total spazz (and he is) and with his human clearly able to take care of himself he has a tendency to, for all intents and purposes, appear a bit reckless. But he's definitely keeping an ear tuned to Nightmares, even while socializing.

The feeling of being observed is definitely crawling its way up Tony's spine and he really doesn't like it.]

Alright, clearly I'm getting nothing out of the computer, which is both insulting and impressive.

...Let's keep moving, and keep both eyes open, I don't like the feel of this place.

[Sora has to concede that point. Why they kept score is a good question.]

This ship is part of their home world. Maybe we can ask later.

[Dingbat would probably get along with Fang, though Fang's more ditz than spazz, in Bruce's opinion. With their people on guard too, it's not likely they'll be caught off guard.

The feeling of being watched is never comfortable, especially when there's no way to know if the watcher is hostile or friendly...]

There's a computer in the basement of the mansion in Twilight Town, but it wasn't working either.

[He nods an agreement at the suggestion to stay alert. Besides Nightmares of new types, there's still at least a small chance of something else being present.]

[Tony makes a non-committal noise, but he's logging that away, too. Another computer somewhere. It's probably futile, but at the very least, he can try to glean something from it.

To be perfectly honest, Tony has no idea where he's going. None whatsoever. So he takes a right at the next chance. Another hallway. This has to lead somewhere, right?

Which is when Tony hears the strangest sounds, and Jarvis alerts him to hostiles. These must be Nightmares.]

Ah, was wondering when you'd show up.

[Dingbat is immediately on the attack, all reckless abandonment and rapid-fire attacks.

Tony, on the other hand has ~~set phasers to stun~~ dialed down his repulsor blasts from the hands of the suit, being conscientious of the fact that he really doesn't want to blow any holes in this ship. He's picking them off one by one, frowning, though you can't see it behind the mask.

These psychedelic gremlins are kind of tough.]

You alright, kid?

[ooc: ps, I have no idea what I'm doing shdgjhsd}

[This is a new place for Sora too. He figures they can call on the guys that know this place if they get lost.

The Nightmares force a subject change. For the same reason Tony's dialing down his power, Sora's going to be refraining from using magic as much as possible. He's pretty sure some of the stronger spells he can cast might just punch a hole in something. Besides that, as talented as he is with magic, he's better and more comfortable with melee anyway.

And he's kind of used to fighting the psychedelic gremlins. Jelly Bean and Bruce are right up in the fray. The Nightmare party consists of Cyber Yogs and Escarglows. The goats aren't too much concern, but the snails have the Zero Gravity spells. Fun. At least Sora knows two of the possible encounters now. What other Nightmares does this ship have hanging around?]

I'm fine.

[Unfortunately it seems as if Sora has spoken too soon. Sora's hit hard from behind; he's knocked unconscious and his dream eaters are badly injured but conscious. Tony's likewise attacked by something, though he's unaware of what's hit him, and he and his dream eaters are all left injured but conscious.]

[Tony smirks. Okay, Sora can handle himself. That's actually a huge relief, since he really didn't need to be the new guy known for getting some poor kid killed in magical-dream-outer-space.....

Okay, great, and then there's that. Tony has just enough time to not get any kind of warning from Jarvis before he has the shit kicked out of him by something he couldn't even see.

With a groan, he awkwardly drags his sorry carcass up and glances over at Sora. Who, even without Jarvis's quick scan, is definitely not okay. Shit, shit, shit.]

Kid? Kid? Sora? Speak to me, c'mon.

[He crawls over and kneels beside the boy, removing one of the gloves so he can feel for breath and a pulse. Alright, he's alive, but knocked out cold. He spares a glance for their dream eaters, none of them looking too hot, but at least they appear to be conscious.

He snatches his comm from one of the hidden compartments. Time to call for backup. In case whatever that was comes back.]

Lin? Hey, we've got trouble, and whatever it was knocked Sora out. The dream eaters are injured, too.

[And I feel like I just got hit by a semi. I know how that feels.]

[ And this is why Lin always insists on having something or someone in reserve.

She's quick to respond, not too sharp, but she's certainly startled. You two haven't been gone that long. ]

Stark?

What happened.

[There's a briefly muffled exchange of words with someone on her side of things, before:] What's your location?

[Where were they... He pulls up a map from Jarvis's scans. ~~IhavenoideaifthisiscorrectIdon'tknowthisship~~]

About 30 paces straight from the bridge, then hang a left for 10 paces, then a right. You can't miss us.

I can carry him. [But I can't defend him if I'm carrying him.] But backup would be nice.

[He bites back the anger at being caught so off guard, and tries to swallow down the guilt in the realization that he can't seem to protect anything.]

All right.

[ New 'world', new exploration: the directions are exactly what she needed. ~~s'all good, winging it ftw!~~ ]

We'll be right there. Secure your position, if you can, and don't let the dream eaters stray too far. Do you have any potions on hand?

[If only for himself - Lin has extras packed that can be used on Sora.]

What sort of nightmare hit you? We'll keep an eye out for it on our way there.

That's the thing. Never saw it, there was no warning, not even a sound. And it packed a hell of a punch. So, fair warning, you'll never see it coming.

[The tone is masked by the voice modulator, but it doesn't take a genius to know he's definitely put out by this. If Jarvis couldn't even alert him to it, it was... well, he doesn't have a word in mind to convey the level of bad, yet.]

Yeah, I've got one stored away.

[They're like five-hour-energy on crack, of course he has one on hand. He's still kicking himself for not trying them sooner.]

[While Sora is thoroughly out of it, his Spirits are at least conscious, though too badly injured and weakened to really help. Jelly Bean pokes at Sora worriedly, trying to rouse him. No dice. The Meow Wow whines pitifully. Bruce meanwhile is trying to listen for possible threats or help coming, though the way he's sitting close to Sora and occasionally chittering worriedly says he cares more than his attitude would suggest.]

[ That. does not sound good. At all. Something hiding in the metal walls, perhaps? Yet she can't recall any mention of Toximanders behaving in that way.

Lin's voice is grim. ]

Understood. We'll see you shortly.

[ Tony and Sora might not have gone particularly far, in the grand scheme of things, but there are nightmares enough to fill the corridors of the MoI that backup takes a little while to get there. Lin's had to limit the bending she's using as well - not simply due to a distinct lack of earth and stone, but due to the ship's construction: there's only so much metal bending she dare risk right now. The fact there are giraffes around here that shoot lightning has left Lin less than pleased, though her pricklemane seems only a little worse for wear from intercepting a bolt or three..

Once the scout team had been found, though, what had been a jog breaks into a run, with Lin's dream eater chittering a reassurance at the other Spirits as his Person sprints their way. She's not alone, either: Lin has no idea if Tony and Eraqus have been introduced, but the Keyblade Master's aid was not refused when he overhead the radio message. ]

Stark! How's Sora doing?

[The mask snaps open as Lin and Eraqus' approach, and Tony frowns at the answer he's about to give.]

He's unconscious, but alive. Breathing is normal, but he's not responsive otherwise.

[It's pretty obvious from the mewling of the menagerie that the dream eaters are conscious, so he doesn't waste time stating the obvious.

He's glad that Lin and her +1 are there. Normally, he'd have absolutely no qualms going this alone. But clearly there's a force here he can't anticipate, and he's not going to risk the life of this kid. He's also ridiculously thankful for the suit. If it weren't for the armor, he'd likely be just as conscious as Sora.]

[It seems they weren't here for long before something going very wrong, and that's got Eraqus worried. Even worse when he finds out it's Sora, considering how important the boy is to many people.]

[They have been introduced, although it seems so far he's only seen Tony in states of injury...] This doesn't look good...

Here. [He immediately raises his Keyblade and casts curaga over the two of them...hopefully that should help Tony recover quicker, and Sora wake up.]

[A strange, growling, hissing sound seems to come from behind Eraqus, but if he turns to look, there's nothing to be seen.]

[Lin and her dream eater are suddenly attacked and left conscious but battered by the assault.]

[Sora stirs with the healing. It certainly helps. His Spirits are instantly relieved by his returning to consciousness. He slowly starts picking himself up. Hurting a bit and still a bit woozy, he doesn't rush things.

He's about to ask if anyone has any idea what hit them when Lin and her Spirit are nailed. That gets his attention and he scrambles up. He's a bit unsteady and doesn't really get any further than kneeling just yet. Perhaps he ought not rush it, but he's looking around for the unseen attacker, hoping to maybe be able to offer some warning if it strikes again.

Someone might want to be ready to steady him once he does actually stand up, otherwise he'll be on his ass again in short order. He won't object to the suggestion that they get the hell out of there.]

[ Lin nods at Tony, before stepping aside to let Eraqus do his work. She's seen a few healing spells before, but watching magic at actual work has yet to cease to be a curiousity for her. It's nothing like the sort of healing done by waterbenders.

A pouch flips open at her hip, and she tosses two more vials towards Tony. ]

Here. For your dream eaters.

We didn't see anything when--

[-- And that's all Lin manages before Something Strikes. For a moment, her entire body constricts, before she is sent flying through the air, crashing into the bulkhead forming the corridor.

Her armour, near spotless moments before, looks the worse for wear from the invisible contact, and there's muffled cursing as she attempts to sit up; blood drips from her forehead, though whether the gash was caused by the unseen force or from her face hitting the wall is unclear.

Her pricklemane makes a choked noise like a deflating balloon, before being sent tumbling to one side, its spikes looking decidedly flattened. ]

[Tony shudders at the healing magic, but manages to nod a thanks. When Sora starts to come to, Tony reaches out a hand, ready to steady him if need be.]

Welcome back, kid.

[When Lin tosses the vials at Tony, he only manages to catch one, in his un-gloved hand, because at the growl the mask snaps down and his other hand is raised to attack. He knows what he heard, but he doesn't see anything, and Jarvis's data is inconclusive. He fires a short burst from the repulsor in the general direction of the sound, just moments after Lin has already been attacked, and curses vehemently under his breath. It's muted by the helmet and Jarvis's wisdom.

Thankfully his power was still dialed down, so only minimal damage should be done to the ship itself if the intended target was missed entirely.

He's still snarling under the helmet as he stands to rush to Lin, though he hesitates just a moment, torn between staying to steady Sora or lending a hand to Lin. After a quick vitals check, he approaches Lin. He offers her the potion back.]

I think it's time to blow this popsicle stand.

[Eraqus spins around instantly at the sound of the growling, Keyblade in hand, but there's nothing there. Nothing to see, but noises to hear? Is this some kind of creature with invisibility?]

[No time to decide for sure, since suddenly something hits Lin and her Dream Eaters, too. Eraqus swears something under his breath, and calls up his Wheeflower.]

Jyunai!

[For once Jyunai's OCD comes in handy. The Wheeflower makes some shocked and frustrated noises at how many blood and bruises are around here, and sets about throwing cure spells at Lin, her Spirits, and anyone else within range. He puts a hand on Sora's shoulder.]

You're still hurt; keep still for now!

[And Eraqus agrees. They're at a severe disadvantage here if they don't have the means to detect an invisible enemy yet.] Yes, let's leave this world.

[Sora can't exactly argue here. He's still hurting and unsteady and Tony's efforts to stabilize him are quite appreciated.

Bruce chatters at Jyunai's fretting. Really? This kind of stuff happens sometimes. You should have seen it when they blew up the greenhouse!

Sora has fought invisible enemies before, but there had been ways to detect them before they could nail someone. This one though... This one needs a little more effort and that isn't happening now.]

We're not too far from the portal.

[The added healing that the Wheeflower is throwing around helps. It doesn't put him in fighting shape, but at least no one's going to need to carry him when they get moving.]

[ The squeaking sounds less deflated as the Cure spells reach the Pricklemane, who struggles back onto his paws. Persons need to be more careful it churrrs when someone mentions blowing things up, before looking towards Lin worriedly.

The offered hand up is accepted from Tony, though Lin half-pushes herself to standing using the wall until she's on her feet again. The heals help greatly, the swelling reduced then gone completely in a matter of what feels like moments as Jyunai begins the caster spam; the trail of blood down her face remains, however. ]

Did anyone..? [The question cuts off - given both their expressions and the cursing, it didn't appear that anyone saw...whatever it was.] Tch.

[ Discretion IS the better part of valour. Lin's not best pleased, that much is clear, but the ex-Chief isn't about to argue. ]

Agreed. I think Luna's suggestion to warn the others of this world should be extended to all, now.

[To Tony:] Keep it. I have enough spares for now.

[The healing spells are disconcerting, but welcome, as Tony really would rather have his hands free to fight than to have to carry an injured party member.

He pockets the spare potion in one of a few compartment in the suit and beckons his other glove over from where he'd left it: it flies to his hand and attaches, the suit whole again.

Tony's not thrilled about leaving. Not at all, but if something can hit that hard without being seen and without leaving a discernible trace, they definitely need to spend a little more time planning. And he'll need to make a few adjustments.

He'll be back.

He glances over to Sora.]

You alright, kid?

[He then turns to finally assess the state of his own dream eater, when the bat flies full force into his face with a screech, latching on with its wings until it can reach its perch on top of the helmet.

Tony closes his eyes and counts to 10 to keep from screeching at it in return. He's glad Dingbat is alright, in a way, but damn it, why the face.]

[Jyunai keeps tossing about spells, tut-tutting at everyone for getting hurt. Exploding a greenhouse? That's the most unsafe thing she can think of! How awful!]

It sounds like no one saw it... [He sounds frustrated.]

Everyone's able to move all right? [He looks between Lin, Sora and Tony, and they seem to be as all right as could be considered.]

Then let's go. [Since he's the one that seems to be in the best shape for now, he leads the way towards the portal. However, he keeps a careful eye out the entire way.]
