Second Report - Necessity Is The...

[lessabrasive]

[ The communicator clicks on, revealing the sunlit decore of Twilight Town. Sunset Hill, specifically, for those familiar with the location.

What should also be familiar is the statue in view of the camera. Not so familiar? The portal set at the base, the glow pulsing brightly. Invitingly, even. A pricklemane bounces towards it, then stops, tilting its head from left to right and waggling its ears in a show of interest. ]


This wasn't here when I passed by this morning. But it looks like the wait for something new to happen is over.


[ After 10 seconds or so of focus, the camera swings around until the firm frown of Lin Beifong is visible. ]


We don't know what might be through here, and securing a safe point on the other side is a priority. I plan on crossing over shortly. Anyone in Twilight Town is welcome to join me, but I recommend being ready for combat.

We don't know anything about the world on the other side of that thing yet, do we?

[Really, Asami's not sure if it would be safe for her to go, a thought she hates.]

Not yet. Hence the scouting mission.

[ She can't blame Asami for being concerned, but she's certainly more than capable in Lin's mind. ]

We'll make sure to update everyone once we're through.

[motorvation]

[The Buzzerfly incident proved to her that while she's capable, she's not capable enough to face down everything these worlds offer, and she'd rather not be a liability for a group.]

Right. Be careful over there.

[lessabrasive]

[ Perhaps she shouldn't rule herself out just yet. But it's a reasonable worry. Speaking of the bee incident.. ]

How are you holding up?

[motorvation]

[Reasonable. Not one she's happy with, really, but reasonable.]

I'm fine. The medical practices here are better than ours, even. [Waterbenders are great, but sometimes even they fail, and they still need time to work - potions fix everything within seconds.]

[lessabrasive]

I'll admit, I was doubtful of those potions. Though some here seem to possess healing techniques unlike any waterbenders I've encountered.

[ It's...a little irritating to her, actually, not knowing. Lin will have to fix that when the opportunity arises. ]

[motorvation]

You mean the magic? It's a handy trick to have - I wouldn't mind seeing if I could learn how to do it myself.

[Who knows if she'd even be capable of it, considering she's from a world that has bending but not magic, but it's worth a try.]

[lessabrasive]

Certainly wouldn't hurt for you to ask. Those who use it all seem to be from similar worlds, and they don't appear limited in element.

[That strikes part of her as wrong somehow, only the Avatar should command such things, but they are very far from home now.]

[motorvation]

[It's not something she would have thought of either, but as a non-bender, she's more okay with the idea.]

I'm just not sure anyone who's not from those worlds could learn their techniques. I guess it's worth a try, but that part worries me.

[lessabrasive]

Being able to learn foreign techniques? Or more general concern?

[motorvation]

Foreign techniques. There has to be some reason why our world has bending and these other worlds have magic - or neither. And all the magic seems to be different from world to world besides that. What if that's all for a reason?

[lessabrasive]

No doubt it is. It may well be some worlds have lost whatever potential is intended, or have other advantages gained through other means.

The fact this 'realm of sleep' has become a nexus of sorts is concerning.. But taking the opportunity to learn what you can while here may prove beneficial for facing what comes next.

[ even if they don't know what that is yet ]

[motorvation]

I guess it wouldn't hurt to at least ask about it. It sounds like none of the people from this world just know magic, either - they have to learn it, even if they might be better at one kind than another.

[Which is the only reason she thinks she might be able to pick it up. The potential seems to be negligible with this world, relying far more on study. And as Lin should know, Asami is very good at her studies.]
