Second Report - Necessity Is The...
[ The communicator clicks on, revealing the sunlit decore of Twilight Town. Sunset Hill, specifically, for those familiar with the location.
What should also be familiar is the statue in view of the camera. Not so familiar? The portal set at the base, the glow pulsing brightly. Invitingly, even. A pricklemane bounces towards it, then stops, tilting its head from left to right and waggling its ears in a show of interest. ]
This wasn't here when I passed by this morning. But it looks like the wait for something new to happen is over.
[ After 10 seconds or so of focus, the camera swings around until the firm frown of Lin Beifong is visible. ]
We don't know what might be through here, and securing a safe point on the other side is a priority. I plan on crossing over shortly. Anyone in Twilight Town is welcome to join me, but I recommend being ready for combat.
[ooc: this post is action/prose friendly! feel free to reply to Lin, or go ahead and do your own thing in a seperate thread. :D ]

Still, the idea of other people being there... As Chell approaches the Sunset Hill, she stops a moment, considering. Maybe she should try a way to sneak past the rest, and get in before them? The woman on the feed didn't look too friendly, either. It would be a lot easier to go on by herself, anyway.
As Chell stalled, a short ways away, her mind let slip the detail that, unlike turrets, inhabitants of the city are perfectly capable of turning their heads or walking right up and noticing her.]

Noticing the stalled figure, he starts bouncing her way, beaming toothfully in what he hopes is a friendly manner. HI hi hihihi are you joining us? you should totally join us. ]

Instead, she crouches low, frowning, and presses a finger to her lips. Calm down now, thing, they're not going to get anywhere bouncing around like that.]

Whatever the case, the back-steps encourage forward steps on his part before the crouching stalls him, and the large large eyes peer up at her. Then the toothy maw seems to smile wider, and it wobbles its ears in understanding. Okay, okay!
Then it blinks, and peers around her. Under, then up above her head. There follows a crooning noise: no friend yet? You should have a friend! ]

Heaving a silent sigh, Chell shakes her head and straightens up again. The idea of getting some perky, blindingly colored companion struck her as more a pain than anything else, but the sense was sinking in that she'd need to give in before long--everyone else had, at least. Being around others seemed the M.O. around here, anyway.
Steeling herself with a deep breath, she jerked her head at him. Go on, then, lead the way.]

Dream eater logic, everybody.
It's almost a shame non-dream eaters can't understand them.
The ears waggle again, before the Pricklemane turns, and bounces ahead of her, paws scuffing the earth. It stops every so often just to double-check that, yes, Chell is following. You are following right?
Its Person likely knows you're already there, but It has manners and wants to introduce you properly! ]
no subject
Yes, don't worry, she's following, steady but not bothering to keep the bouncing pace the thistle-cat set. Instead, her eyes fixed forward on the woman--the owner--as she approached.
She hadn't seen a real human being in years. Not a living one, at least. It should have felt momentous, intimidating, dramatic, but Chell locked all those dramatics away. They had a portal to investigate.]

Her arms still folded across her chest when Chell approaches, Lin turns to the right before facing her, allowing a clear view of her scars, before the stern expression flicks between the younger woman in the brightbright orange jumpsuit, and her prickly companion.
There's a hint of resignation when she looks at the purple cat-creature. Chell might be able to tell being partnered with the little guy wasn't Lin's idea at all. ]
Didn't I tell you to stay close? And who have we here? [A glance back up to Chell.] He hasn't been bothering you, I hope.
no subject
Chell realized she was staring. It was just hard to believe the woman was actually real, but--but now wasn't the time. It wasn't. She drew herself up--she hadn't been shaking, had she? Honestly--and shrugged at the woman, shaking her head. As far as annoying round things went, this one fell comparatively low on the scale.]

The stern face remains fixed in a frown, but the green eyes soften a little as Chell stares. She doesn't strike Lin as shy, exactly. It reminds her a little of first time visitors to Republic City, wide eyed at being in the neopolitan capital. The shrug and headshake is easy enough to understand, and there's a slight nod in response. ] New, I take it? Well, you arrived just in time.
Apparently a portal to a new world opens every month or two. This is the first to open since I've been here. I take it you'll be joining us in going through?
no subject
One curt nod answered both questions, and Chell grips her portal gun tighter as she looks back to Lin. Just another puzzle to solve. New variables won't change anything. ]
no subject
All right then. If you've any questions, don't be afraid to ask. But be aware, we won't likely have many answers right away.
[ There's an agreeable chirp from the Pricklemane, who swishes his spiked tail eagerly. He'll help, he'll help! ]
