Second Report - Necessity Is The...

[ The communicator clicks on, revealing the sunlit decore of Twilight Town. Sunset Hill, specifically, for those familiar with the location.

What should also be familiar is the statue in view of the camera. Not so familiar? The portal set at the base, the glow pulsing brightly. Invitingly, even. A pricklemane bounces towards it, then stops, tilting its head from left to right and waggling its ears in a show of interest. ]

This wasn't here when I passed by this morning. But it looks like the wait for something new to happen is over.

[ After 10 seconds or so of focus, the camera swings around until the firm frown of Lin Beifong is visible. ]

We don't know what might be through here, and securing a safe point on the other side is a priority. I plan on crossing over shortly. Anyone in Twilight Town is welcome to join me, but I recommend being ready for combat.

[ooc: this post is action/prose friendly! feel free to reply to Lin, or go ahead and do your own thing in a seperate thread. :D ]

[Chell saw little point in responding to the post--better to be efficient and just go check it out for herself. Besides, odds seemed slim that some sort of massive portal would show up at the same time as her.

Still, the idea of other people being there... As Chell approaches the Sunset Hill, she stops a moment, considering. Maybe she should try a way to sneak past the rest, and get in before them? The woman on the feed didn't look too friendly, either. It would be a lot easier to go on by herself, anyway.

As Chell stalled, a short ways away, her mind let slip the detail that, unlike turrets, inhabitants of the city are perfectly capable of turning their heads or walking right up and noticing her.

[The bouncing little critter catches her attention, and Chell jerks in surprise, backing up a step--she remembers the angry little thing that Luna showed her before, and if she hadn't remembered the comment about colors she'd have been happy to just punt this thing.

Instead, she crouches low, frowning, and presses a finger to her lips. Calm down now, thing, they're not going to get anywhere bouncing around like that.

[Urgh. Well, at least it has enough intelligence to pick up on that much.

Heaving a silent sigh, Chell shakes her head and straightens up again. The idea of getting some perky, blindingly colored companion struck her as more a pain than anything else, but the sense was sinking in that she'd need to give in before long--everyone else had, at least. Being around others seemed the M.O. around here, anyway.

Steeling herself with a deep breath, she jerked her head at him. Go on, then, lead the way.

[Whether such enthusiasm would pass on to Chell at any point would have to remain to be seen. At least the little monster was sure of it, who was she to negate its assumptions.

Yes, don't worry, she's following, steady but not bothering to keep the bouncing pace the thistle-cat set. Instead, her eyes fixed forward on the woman--the owner--as she approached.

She hadn't seen a real human being in years. Not a living one, at least. It should have felt momentous, intimidating, dramatic, but Chell locked all those dramatics away. They had a portal to investigate.

[At least the woman didn't seem of the same disposition as her little partner. Experienced, for one, stern... or, she had to assume so, from just the voice. Faces were a little harder for her to interpret, since she hadn't really seen...

Chell realized she was staring. It was just hard to believe the woman was actually real, but--but now wasn't the time. It wasn't. She drew herself up--she hadn't been shaking, had she? Honestly--and shrugged at the woman, shaking her head. As far as annoying round things went, this one fell comparatively low on the scale.

[It's easier to focus on the portal, in its familiar unknowns, than the woman, so Chell studies the anomaly as the woman speaks. So these aren't an uncommon occurence, it sounds like. Well, she can't say she's glad for the familiar ground, but it's something to work with.

One curt nod answered both questions, and Chell grips her portal gun tighter as she looks back to Lin. Just another puzzle to solve. New variables won't change anything.
