1st Day [video]

[It's been a few days since Roxas arrived. It's been a bit rough on him, to say the least, coming from a moment where he was certain it was game over and finding out it wasn't. And then finding an empty Twilight Town, that was so close to home but wasn't. He's laid low for a few days as a result, trying to take it all in.

Today he's fiddling around with the communicator. He's figured out how to talk to people, but not how to start a conversation. The moment he turns it on however, his Meow Wow decides to stick his nose in Roxas's business. So the first thing anyone sees on the screen is Meow Wow nose.]

Bouncer! Get off!

[He shoves the Meow Wow to the side, but it still stays close. Roxas sighs, before remembering that he left it on.]

Uh...hi.

I just wanted to say sorry.

I wasn't in the best mood when I arrived, and yeah. Sorry about that.

That's all.

[The feed ends abruptly.]

[Xion's expanded her Nightmare hunting range to Twilight Town, so she's there when the message comes up.]

It's okay. Are you feeling better?

[Oh? This was the private function? He'd have to figure it out, since it could be useful.]

A little bit, yeah. I managed to sleep. And think about things.

[It's pretty handy. Xion likes to use it so she can take of her hood around people she knows.]

Good.

[There's a slight pause.]

Do you want to go to the clock tower? It's kind of a long walk up the stairs, but the view is the same.

[She's a little hesitant. After seeing his reaction to the ice cream, she's not sure how he'll react to things that have strong ties to his memories, but she can't help asking all the same.]

[He's quiet for a while.]

I don't...I don't know. Are you sure nothing's changed?

The way to the old mansion is blocked, but other than that, it's the same.

It's not like I was planning to go there any time soon. I guess I could try.

Okay. I should be at the station soon. Meet me there?

Yeah, alright.

[It doesn't take him long to get there, since he knows all the shortcuts and everything. Bouncer lives up to his name beside him.]

[Xion arrives not long afterwards, Barkley running ahead to greet Bouncer.]

Hey. The door's this way.

[She starts to lead him to the door to the staircase.]

I know where it is.

[But still, he follows, Bouncer on his heels.]

[That's a surprise--they'd always used the corridors before so she hadn't thought he'd know. She chalks it up to him having explored enough to find it, but not quite wanting to go up yet.

Finally they make it out to their usual spot.]

Same as always.

[Well he didn't have that ability in the digital Twilight Town, and the two worlds were pretty much the same as far as he figured. He didn't even want to think about his room at the moment.

He stares at it. Memories of spending time with Hayner, Pence, and Olette wash through him, overlapping the times he spent here with Axel. He tries to remember Xion being there but no luck.]

Yeah, it really is.

[He goes over and touches the stone. It's warm, like always, from being in the sun.]

[Not knowing about the digital Twilight Town, Xion had no way of knowing that.

Knowing that this has to be difficult for him, she lets him have his moment. Instead of responding with any words, she simply nods and goes to where she used to sit, carefully climbing over and sitting down to watch the sunset.

It's been a while since she could do this with either of her friends, or even thought she'd be able to.]

[He joins her, shortly afterwards. It still feels kind of lonely, sitting up here with a girl who he can't remember, rather than Axel, or his friends from Twilight Town. But he's not going to let that get him down anymore. Xion is trying to be his friend, and he doesn't want to let that go.]

Bouncer, get down. You'll fall.

[For Xion, it's a little lonely with one of her best friends here, and the one who is without any memory of there time together. Still, he's here, and willing to try. That counts for a lot, so she's not giving up as long as he isn't.

For now, she joins the effort to keep Bouncer from getting too close to the ledge.]

We don't want him bouncing off.

[Roxas has his hand out and is kind of pushing Bouncer away. He just wants to see. Let him see, person!]

He doesn't seem to get that he might do that.

[Behind them, Pooh scratches his head in a "think..think" gesture. Then he gets an "aha" look, and walks over to pick up Bouncer. There. Bouncer can see, now, but Pooh has a firm grip on him.

Xion looks surprised, then laughs.]

I guess that works.

[Bouncer struggles at first, but then woofs appreciatively when he can see the view.

Roxas manages a nod, and there's a small smile on his face.]

[With Bouncer settled, Pooh's free to enjoy the view, too. Very nice.

Xion returns the smile.]

[Roxas's gaze turns back to the sunset. He's not trying to ignore Xion, it's just something about her smile throws him off. The lack of memories of her is bothering him, especially as things get clearer.]

[Though she doesn't know what he's thinking, Xion respects his silence. Sometimes a little quiet was what was needed. Unfortunately, that also means that the only way she'll know if he wants to be left alone is if he asks.]

Times like these used to be the best ones of my life.

[He says finally, after a lot of thought.]

Same here.

[Though she doesn't know he might be imagining different friends with him on the clock tower.]

I just wish I knew why it all had to be taken away?

Taken away?

[That's an interesting way of putting it.]

Well, yeah. I mean, I had one life, and then I got dragged out of that and put in another, and made to think it was mine, before that one was taken away as well.

[With Sora in the mix, Roxas is very conscious of what is his and what isn't. He's scared that if he's not, he'll lose them. His selfishness is showing.]

Dragged out of...made to think...

Roxas, what happened?

[This is all news to Xion. She'd told Axel to look out for Roxas, and he'd promised.]

[Too bad Roxas made that difficult for him. Way to go buddy, way to go.

Roxas looks down at his shoes.]

A lot of stuff.

[Everything had turned into a mess. It wasn't only Roxas's fault.]

Anything you want to talk about? Or I can help with?

[You're supposed to tell things to your friends, but she'll try to understand if he doesn't want to tell her just yet. To him, they're starting from square one again.]

Not really. Most of it's in the past, but...

[He trails off. He's still bitter, still carrying it around, reluctant to let the anger go. And he's not sure if he's ready to talk about it again.]

I see.

[She knows about not being ready to talk about something.]

If you ever do want to talk, let me know.

[Roxas nods. He still has trouble trusting, but something tells him that maybe he can trust Xion.]

[Of course he can, they're best friends. Though Xion's not looking forward to having to explain some things, she will once he's settled in a little more.

For know, just sitting quietly and watching the sunset while eating ice cream is nice.]

[It is. The sunset's still the same, and this feels right, so he'll stick with it.]
