So.

[A boy in a frosted blue hoody and white hair sits comfortably...on top of a roof. He has a staff perched against his shoulder and the stars are shining bright behind him. Hovering over his shoulder is a Komory Bat looking curious at the world around it and flitting around on and off screen. Eventually the bat settles onto the crook of the staff and hangs upside down. The boy glances up at the bat and looks like he's not sure if he should laugh or frown. Over all he just looks awkward and unsure of himself which is kind of a new feeling for him.]

I've never had a pet before, dreams or otherwise. It's kind of weird.

[He should probably say something else...but what? Jack looks thoughtful. Clearly, he hasn't done this before]

Everyone can see me though, right? [Frown.] There isn't going to be much point in me using this communicator watch if you can't. The Moogle looked at me like I was insulting him or something when I told him I didn't think it would work, but I guess if this is a dream things are different, right?

[He looks guarded, like he's not sure he wants to believe in that just yet. Too much prior disappointment]

Oh well. [Shrugs it off, let's just pretend everything is fine even if inside he's nearly freaking out.] I guess as long as the Moogles and the bat can see me it shouldn't be a big deal. I have to admit, the Nightmares you have around here are still a lot nicer looking than any of Pitch's.

[Jack swings his staff. Momentarily forgetting that the Komory Bat is hanging from him. The bat squeaks and flutters off. He looks up at it.] Maybe that's what all of this is about...maybe this is how I'm supposed to be a Guardian [Wait, that's admitting he WANTS to be a guardian, Jack backtracks and shakes his head.] or whatever. Although you'd think Sandy would be the one fighting in a dream world, not me.

[The bat lands on the staff again, testing it to see if Jack is done bouncing and twirling it. Jack looks sad for a moment but then brushes it aside. He's gotten bored of talking to himself. He stands up, kicking his staff up, once again disturbing the bat.]

Come on Snowball. Let's check out this town.

[Jack blinks and then looks a little crest fallen...before remembering that other people had responded and they couldn't ALL have that sort of...ability.]

It's...[well, actually explaining it could be hard considering he doesn't know much about it.] the stuff that dreams are made of literally.

[Meanwhile Emi is trying to wrap his brain around the idea of dreams.]

[Jack waves it off.]

They might not be. Maybe the sand just takes the shape of whatever someone's dreaming about. I dunno how it works, it's not my sand.

If that was a thing, I dunno, shouldn't this town be full of it then?

Though wait... someone could use it?

This definitely isn't Sandy's work...at least not from what I've seen him do.

Sure. You've never heard of the Sandman? He uses it to give kids dreams or help them sleep.

[Oh yeah, he's heard a little about those kinds of fairytales]

That's just something humans tell their kids so they will go to sleep.

That's just what parents believe and what the Guardians want you to think.

Sandman's real. I watch him do his work practically every night.

[Makes a little noise while he thinks] I guess I'm not too surprised he could exist somewhere, a lot of people here seem to be from different places.

It's like the name implies. They're the ones that protect children's dreams and the children themselves. The Sandman is just one of them.

Protect them from what? ... Those other kinds of Nightmares?

Yeah pretty much. I mean, when they're not putting kids to sleep, leaving quarters under pillows, or bustling around trying to keep their deadlines for eggs and toys.

[Is listening, but doesn't look all that amused.]

Sounds like way too much work than it must be worth.

They've been doing this for centuries. I think it's a little late to be breaking habits.

[Although, is being a little bit curious again.]

Kids love it. Adults don't believe in them.

[Thinking a little again. It really wasn't his business at all, maybe it doesn't matter, but he couldn't help but wonder. Wonder if other worlds were in the same kind of trouble as his.]

[He didn't know? Oh dear that really wasn't a good sign. But, then again.]

You know, disciplining them.

We've always had to do it by making them scared of the darkness, otherwise they will get out of control.

We don't have that kind of problem where I'm from. I mean, Tooth's around to remind them if they need a reminder from their childhood. She keeps everyone's memories at the Tooth Palace...but discipline?

Or they just haven't quite grown that far yet. 'Still lucky either way.

I'd still be a little more careful how much they're getting spoiled though.
