[It was the middle of the night, or middle of the morning, whichever you want to call it. For most here, the art of sleep may have been... sort of an odd ritual than normal, with the constant reoccurring dreams. Emizel had been good about it not bothering him that much for quite some time. Many demons had a habit for staying awake for days on end and then sleeping all that time off later. Which may have been part of the case here, only now, this time the dreams were really starting to get to him.]

[Getting to sleep wasn't the hard part, it was trying to stay there. Rolling to a different side, curling up, straightening out, lie on his back, neither of those things were making anything different. Still the same dream, still the same memory. Being abandoned was bad enough just the first time, of course he didn't want to be reminded of it another twenty times more.]

[The next time Emizel woke up he got so fed up that he chucked the pillow across the room, disrupting the Spirits. From there he sat up and brought his knees to his chest.]

... I'm not allowed to forget, am I? [Buries face.]

[... Alright alright. Maybe there was something that could distract him from this. A minute or so later he looked up to the nightstand and grabbed the device, and clicked it open. There had to be something else going on..]

Names are important to everyone. Although... I don't think it always has that kind of influence.

[She has noticed the omission, but has no intention of making any fuss about it.]

In my short time of dealing with humans, or rather, non-ponies, I have noticed that they tend to have less descriptive names. In Equestria, the same is true of, for example, zebras and griffons. It is much easier to be influenced by a name such as 'Celestia' than, say, 'Gilda'.

But having one that's unique means you can stand out more. There's no one or thing else that you can be mistaken for. [Or so that's what he hopes to achieve someday.]

... Although I do know of a lot of demons that like to use titles to sound menacing.

Beyond the simple titles of position or aristocracy, you mean? [She'll set aside any consideration of 'demons' for now; Celestia suspects that may be an area that will take much longer to explain than a simple late-night conversation.]

Nah, it's pretty much just that.

I suppose pretensions to aristocracy are certainly a way for some to puff themselves up. My nephew is like that, I'm afraid. A very distant nephew, not a direct relation, and his title has gone to his head.

Curiously enough, the title of Princess, from which other titles descend, is earned, not inherited. Which is, I think, how it should be... though I may have a certain amount of bias in the considerations.

I thought royalty was only something you're born into.

[Although, there is supposedly that whole 'marriage' thing too. But it's probably not quite as special.]

That was most likely true for the unicorn kingdom that existed prior to the founding of Equestria, and perhaps for some time after. But much of our history and tradition was lost during the reign of Discord, spirit of disharmony. It was after that time that the title became earned.
